Activities Carried out

Trinetra has been working in the distressed areas of farmers through its various programs. The objectives of these interventions are to conserve soil and water; enrich eco – system and bio – diversity, improve crop productivity, tree based farming system, livestock development, and community based organization. These aspects are helping in creating gainful self-employment opportunities in the region. Innovative socio technological interventions have shown good results.  Lac cultivation, gum tapping is proving to be an alternate and renewable source of livelihood to the farmers. Selected farmers and SHG members are properly trained in developing and utilizing these natural resources for such nature friendly livelihood options. The activists have always shown sensitivity and concern to realize the need for carrying out such work. These, above mentioned, examples illustrate how a small activity undertaken after a rational and appropriate thinking can develop into a full-fledged program that can be replicated. Besides discipline and development of proper working methods, the Organization has shown flexibility in initiating such activities. It will help the rural families in their march towards progress.

All the families who participate in various programs of Trinetra are experiencing positive changes in their lives. We congratulate them for their involvement. They get all possible support and cooperation from Trinetra staff members. We also thank the Government of Maharashtra, the Government of India, the funding organizations and well-wishers and the whole Trinetra staff. A special thank obviously we must offer to the officials from department of Agriculture, Yavatmal, Bhandara & Hingoli district of Mharahstra and the department as a whole, from whom Trinetra got a moral support and proper guidance all the time to be played role as prominent facilitator for the society.

Strategically with defined family focused & need based approach, our team works in interior backward areas to develop linkages with rural societies and to identify the basic developmental issues. All the exercises are performed through a series of meetings, awareness campaigns, agro exhibition which has resulted our one to one touch poor families in its working areas. Modern agriculture and ago allied activities, water conservation as the basic objective with other developmental programs and issues like water pollution, hazards of chemical fertilizers & pesticides in farming, health, hygiene & sanitation were also highlighted as well as at the same time, the high need of construction of watershed was identified to be used for domestic and agricultural usage.

Improved agriculture & Agro allied practices
There is an emphasis, through the programs on adoption of improved agricultural activities to achieve food availability round the year. These include practices like use of improved seeds, use of organic fertilizers and pesticides, integrated pest and nutrient management practices, etc. The use of improved agricultural practices also helps achieve another important out come. Through such practices the money required to purchase food grains can now be saved to improve quality of life. Citing the growing demand for organic fertilizers, which is seen as a changing trend, vermin culture activity is promoted. The vermin compost obtained is being used for vegetable growing and for fruit plants.

 Vermin Composting
Wastes constitute organic matter which can be utilized by properly composting it into a value-added end product called manure. The chief objective is to compost organic wastes not for the disposal of solid organic wastes but also to produce superior quality manure to feed our "nutrient/organic matter hungry" soils. Trinetra has offered its valuable contribution for organic farming. It is organizational experience that if every village can formulate cooperative society of unemployed youth/women group, it could be a wise venture for them to produce vermin compost and sell it back to the village at a recommended price. Organic wastes can be broken down and fragmented rapidly by earthworms, resulting in a stable nontoxic material with good structure, which has a potentially high economic value and also act as soil conditioner for plant growth. Vermin compost supplies a suitable mineral balance, improves nutrient availability and could act as complex-fertilizer granules.

Environmental benefits
Vermin composting has applications that can reduce global warming. Using worms for composting has been shown to reduce the methane and nitrous oxide levels in landfills, which are worse for the environment than carbon dioxide gas. In the United Kingdom, worms are used for vermin fiction, or treating sewage. Unlike traditional sewage treatment plants, worms do not produce bio hazardous waste products and save money.

Our Initiatives
Since its activation we are slowly and regularly every year at Trinetra offering training and counseling services on vermin composting, including techniques, low-cost methods and improved methodologies in collaboration with Agriculture department and concern organization. With proper consultation with the agriculture department for the solution and intervention Trinetra has started developing vermin composting by the farmers and motivated them by providing training and workshop that at least they must do this activity for their cultivation for the time being not to go for commercially, which will increase gradually the power of production of the land with eco friendly support long run. And this is very easy for them to initiate as they have their resources like cow dung, solid waste, etc.
